Estela tells them how different it is now from when she was a child, around 35-40 years ago-.Ĭhildren highly enjoy writing their letters to their counterparts in the North, reflecting as they write and share with them about our ecosystem, proud to show and speak about many things, but somewhat concerned about what has been diminished and by that, re-stating their desire for preservation of our region’s hábitat. It was important to share how many different species of animals have declined in numbers, including pedators to Monarchs and those rare species -abundant in former times-, like the “Ajolote”, the “Armadillo”, etc. We discussed all of the trees in our forests, including the magnificent “Oyamel” trees and how it is ideal for Monarchs to overwinter. We discussed how important it is for the rest of the animal and plant species survival as well. Indeed, again the phase of metamorphosis taking place in the pupae stage stunes them.Ĭhidren were highly interested at knowing that our regional ecosystem has taken hundreds of millions of years to be formed, and how important caring for our natural resouces willprovide for Monarchs’ overwintering. Many questions and responses were exchanged. “ How amazing a Monarch’s life is!” they all exclaimed. Their teacher asked, “ Am I allowed to hold the Monarchs’ life-cycle life-time line?”Ĭhildren marvelled as stage after stage in the life-cycle of Monarchs was explained. As soon as they saw me, no time for welcoming photos! They were very anxious to get started! This school and their teacher have welcomed the Journey North program very wamly, both the teacher and the students find it as an important part of their essential education. The average possibilities that our children will reach and complete university level in the future in our small villages and towns is 20-30 percent. Most Parents should have completed Elementary school studies but only a half could have completed Middle school, and a real minority of parents could hardly have ended High school. Possibilities for optional choices for a living are scarce for our communities, since 50-75 percent of their Grandparents may have hardly finished Elementary school. Most mothers of children in our región stay at home. The rest of their income comes from their fathers’ getting small Jobs in construction either local or in big cities for their families’ support. Others living permanently in the village rely on the forest for extra income, which implies logging, unfortunately. 9/5/2023 0 Comments Dokev pokemonThe trailer that was dropped last year only showed 10 percent of the massive island players will be able to explore. What Pearl Abyss has shown of DokeV so far, does show it is an extremely ambitious game. Even if that means that he’s not even going to the start of a game until five years after the first announcement, that game isn’t allowed. And Pearl Abyss will want to be sure that it has created the best monster-catching came that it can easily create before giving it to the world. DokeV will automatically be compared to Pokemon when it launches. The book “Black Desert” is originally written for Pearl Abyss and is now a new game from the same universe.Īs for DokeV, any studio attempting to recreate the magic that Pokemon has to offer must take care of the best of their players. It looks like the second anniversary of that night will come and go without the game getting started. Gameplay for Crimson Desert was first shown during the 2020 Game Awards. With the announcement in 2019, the wait for Pearl Abyss’s other upcoming project will continue. These losses didn’t just affect DokeV, but also the Crimson Desert. Relatively, Doke was very hilarious in Gamecom 2021. In the earnings report of Eurogamer, the delay was explained due to a lack of core developer resources. Although that has been stated by the site, the actual world of the Pearl Abyss was silent when deciding what their ambitious game was, not only had the official Twitter account posted for January. The more than long-overdue update regarding the status of DokeV comes with courtesy of GamesRadar. DokeV’s launch has been pushed back beyond 2023, so it is now at the most all a year away. An update from the studio was given to the first time in months of it, but it’s not good news. DokeV, a Pokemon-inspired open-world game that a Japanese studio founded in 1949 by Pearl Abyss, has fallen off the video game radar by 2022. 9/5/2023 0 Comments Dropbox mac reviewAlso, speed is sometimes really slow here in Europe. (Thank god, there were a hard copies) … but that’s a no go. Then a vicious cycle of logging out and logging in starts – and in the worst case – as it happened to me twice in the past years – files get deleted, that shouldn’t. And apparently, nobody knows why … and there is no way of forcing them to do. The deep system integration, automatic backups of photos and devices, shared desktop and document folders and all kinds of other magical things “that just work” were things that should have been enough unique selling points to pull the trigger. It´s OK for what they offer and it’s basically the standard in the cloud sector, but as I found an alternative in pCloud I was a bit hesitant.Īs an Apple user with iPhone, iPad and two Macs all working hand in hand, iCloud would have been an obvious choice. So if it’s a big folder and your partners are on a free plan it does not work. Two things really bothered me though: the sharing of a folder to collaborate always “clogs” client and partner dropboxes as well, as a folder always counts against storage space on all accounts. Their incremental (block-byte) upload makes it a very fast system, even if you change big files, as it just uploads the bits and bytes that changed in seconds. It is fast all over the world and with their 2TB plan, they offer plenty of space with a lot of collaboration gimmicks. And last but not least there was pCloud – a company that I did not have on my radar at all – but they jumped on the map with an intriguing offer: a one-time payment for a lifetime license at 65% off (an offer they have right now as well).ĭropbox is the “top-dog”. iCloud was an obvious candidate as well, as I am living in a total-Apple environment. The final three options came to be Dropbox, as a proven and reliable partner in the past years. And there are plenty of different companies and offerings – all with their pros and cons. But before I simply took the “D-train”, I went searching for possible alternatives. Then Dropbox introduced the limits of synced devices on their free account and pushed me to invest in cloud space. And having the complete Backup on Backblaze, this system was good for me. For the sync with Dropbox, I used a free account and was quite happy with the limited but through friend-referrals and other offerings extended 15GB space. For collaboration and client exchange this is defacto industry standard. Cloud-Space & File Sync: Dropbox – the industry standardįor years I opted for Dropbox for the most current projects to stay in sync on all of my devices. And for about 5 bucks a month it’s also very affordable. Network-attached devices or USB HDDs stay backed up as well for 30 days after disconnecting. Also, all of my devices kept a constant backup of system data as well – that is convenient. This added a third backup of important data off-site and online. On top of that, I use a cloud-based backup solution called Backblaze. That’s very simple and should be standard :-) Backups: Online and Offline Usually, I take one back home and leave one at the office. Here I can quickly create two identical backups of important data, mainly footage. For my backups, I usually use bare HDDs in a docking station like this one. Backups: On-Site and Off-siteĮxperts say it’s best to have an on-site and an off-site solution. We still had the drive connected as a backup for some template files and some fun photos, but quickly disconnected it as we read about the data breaches.įor my personal backup, sync and transfer use-cases I rely on completely different services though. We have one of these WD Drives at the CineD office, that we used to transfer files to our editors abroad before we switched to frame.io. Taking the recent news of the horrible malware that simply wiped out data from My Book Live NAS drives by Western Digital in account, I wanted to write a little bit about my personal backup solutions and how I fell in love with pCloud – a dropbox alternative with killer features and a really attractive pricepoint. But my quest for cloud webspace lead me somewhere else – pCloud. Everybody knows NAS drives, and everyone knows Dropbox. 9/5/2023 0 Comments Biqu h2 direct drive hemeraIf you want to give a DD setup a whirl, I'd suggest a printable DD conversion since it's the cheapest. The Creality one is also looks pretty neat! I've seen folks be pretty happy with the Printer Mods DD plate, as well as the Speeddrive printed adapter. I've been meaning to tweak this but haven't gotten around to it. You would need to re-route the cables to the front in order to recover this build volume.ĭD setups do make the hotend a bit heavier, but I don't print particularly fast on my E3Pro to notice any ringing/ghosting (max of 50mm/s). The default installation of the Micro Swiss DD reduces your Z-axis max height by quite a bit (I think around 50mm) as shown here. I’ve also read that with the added weight, I might have to slow the printing down. I get the feeling you might loose a little height but that probably depends on the design. Plus I got fed up with the stock Creality hotend cooking the end of my bowden tube resulting in annoying under extrusion issues every few months. I have the Micro Swiss DD + All-Metal Hotend combo and it's been working great! I think it's worthwhile if you have a use for the all-metal hotend (printing high temps for instance), and a DD setup compliments an all-metal hotend due to the much lower retractions (as all-metal hotends prefer less retraction speed/distance). In a plasma, the atoms are spaced similarly to gas except. An increased resolution would have meant that more of the scrolling playing field was visible, which would have come in very handy. Examples of gases are oxygen and nitrogen (in the air we breathe), helium, and steam (water vapor). There is a 4 Elements HD available for PS3 so it is a pity that the PC version was never updated. The game is also quite polished for a casual title and while the resolution is stuck at 800X600 it still looks good. The visuals are pretty basic but everything is nice and colorful. It is a casual game though, so don’t expect anything too hectic. There are only four jewel colors, but the levels are large enough that there is rarely time to waste. These power-ups are charged by making matches with the appropriately colored gems on the board, but you can also string together five or more matches to create an explosion. You can also swap pieces with the right power-up or reshuffle the whole board. The shovel will let you dig up a single block while the bomb power-up will clear away rocks. Since each level has a time limit these obstacles can slow you down, but fortunately you have some power-ups at your disposal. This starts out simple enough, but eventually you start encountering obstacles such as rocks or frozen blocks. Instead of clearing the entire playing field in the match three segments, your goal is only to clear a path from beginning to end through which some liquid flows. Each completed level reveals a bit more of a creature card which upon completion is host to a spot the differences challenge. It is then on to the match three gameplay segments which, with more than sixty levels, take up the bulk of the game. For each of the four magic books you first have to reassemble hidden pieces that give you access to the key needed to unlock the book. Predictable storyline aside, the gameplay is rather solid and consists of a nice blend between match three puzzles, hidden object scenes and spot the differences screens. While 4 Elements is a casual game with a rather childish storyline, this is no reason to dismiss it, especially if you have children. Only by unlocking four ancient books of magic can the lands be restored and predictable enough, you volunteered for the job. An ancient kingdom is in trouble after the magic of the four elements is corrupted by evil powers. 9/5/2023 0 Comments Vegetable seedlingsThen why don’t we just start seeds in those larger 6 to 8 inch containers from the get-go, you ask? That way, we don’t need to pot up at all, right? Well, it’s not quite that simple. All of the supplies we use are durable and reusable, which we sanitize between seasons. We’ll usually start seeds in the 6-packs or smaller round 4″ pots, and then pot up to the 6″ pots and 8″ pots as needed. After that, we’ll move them into 6-inch or 8-inch pots. By starting them in slightly larger containers, like these reusable 4” nursery pots, we don’t need to pot up until about 6 to 8 weeks after germination. As I mentioned before, we usually avoid starting larger vegetable seedlings in tiny-hole trays. Plants will feel cramped and overgrown in those fairly quickly. Smaller containers, like those trays with dozens of cells each, are going to require potting up sooner. The best time to pot up a seedling greatly depends on the size of container you started it in. There is no set rule like, “You must pot up within 33 days of germination”… The factors that influence the best time for potting up seedlings include their container size, the type of plant, when they’re intended to be planted outside, and how vigorously they are growing. The timing for when to pot up is going to vary from gardener to gardener, situation to situation, and plant to plant. Even if you have been feeding with an occasional dilute seaweed extract, the plants will definitely enjoy a slighter richer, heartier soil now! Seedling soil is very fluffy and pretty devoid of nutrients. Lastly, the potting up process feeds the seedlings! If you started seeds in straight seedling mix, or a mix with primarily seedling soil like we do, chances are they’re hungry. Taking care of seedlings can be tedious enough, but especially so if they’re drying out on you every day!ģ. You’ll notice that a small 6-pack full of soil and yet-to-sprout seeds will retain moisture much longer than a small 6-pack full of maturing, thirsty seedlings. Another reason to pot up seedlings is that as their roots grow larger, they drink more water, and thus dry out more quickly. Therefore, we try to prevent root binding in the first place, to reduce the amount we need to disturb the roots later.Ģ. They might even get a bit of transplant shock from it. However, some don’t take a liking to this treatment. Some plants don’t mind a little root-ruffling, and breaking up that ball can encourage the roots to spread as we want them to. However, this could either help them, or harm them. Plants with tight, bound root balls can be gently loosened during the time they’re transplanted. Plant health is directly tied to root health, so this means the plants are also less likely to flourish.Ī root-bound tomato seedling, left in a too-small container too long. This can reduce the roots ability to spread out and flourish after they’re planted out in the garden. When a plants roots are being restricted to the point that they start to grow in circles around themselves, they become tangled and “bound up”. By potting up seedlings into larger containers, it enables their roots to continue to grow without getting root-bound. Potting up seedlings as they grow provides them the best chance to grow stronger and bigger, feel less stressed, and live their best life!ġ. We’ll talk more about container sizes shortly. This reduces the urgency to do it so soon after germination. Knowing this about myself, we try to combat this and set ourselves (and plants) up for success from the very beginning – by starting seeds in larger containers. Over all the other things I need to do around the homestead, this is one chore that I consistently put off until it’s urgently due. It isn’t all that difficult, but does take a little time and effort. To be honest, potting up is a task I dread for some reason. It is simply the act of transplanting seedlings “up” into larger containers than they were previously living in. Potting up couldn’t get any more literal. Those tomato seedlings on the left need to be potted up still! The ones on the right just were. 9/5/2023 0 Comments Rpg party story trackerWe know there's not much space behind that DM screen, after all! RPGs are a cornerstone of gaming, but no single game can represent the genre because it’s grown and blossomed into numerous sub-genres. The basic premise of the role-playing game is simple and ubiquitous in numerous games: you create or take control of a character that you can then level up through experience points. 9/5/2023 0 Comments Lumen christi mequon grant"We certainly feel very fortunate we are able to provide resources to areas that are so much in need, especially in the economic situation that we are in," Schulz said. Schulz foresees possibly expanding the number of organizations and causes, while maintaining their parents’ intent. For now, that means maintaining support to the more than dozen and a half organizations their parents helped annually. "You are trying to feel it out and figure out what’s the best way to do it," she said. Schulz describes their new role as similar to taking a new job. After Mary Anne passed away in 2008, Schulz and her sister, Trish Hilbert, became successor advisers. When Kirby passed away in 2002, Schulz helped her mother with the grantmaking. That interest lives on through their fund, which supports Catholic and central city schools like Nativity Jesuit Middle School, among other organizations. Mary Anne, a former teacher, and Kirby made sure their children had a Catholic education. One of those shared passions was education. They felt blessed and wanted to do something to provide ongoing support to their favorite organizations and causes. The couple created the Lawlis Family Fund in 1994 with money Kirby received from selling the Miller Brands distributorship he led for 11 years. Both were active at Mequon’s Lumen Christi Catholic Church. Mary Anne was a Girl Scout leader and regular fixture at her children’s sporting events. Kirby was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, a grade school basketball coach and one of the founders of Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful. Helping others was second nature to the couple, who met on a blind date in 1953 and married two years later. "They led by example," said Joanne Schulz, the eldest of the couple’s five children.
